The Work

In this new book, Miles Hyman reveals the richness of a fictional universe heavily influenced by the cinema and crime fiction of the 1940s and 50s. From the strongly cinematographic framing and composition to the warm colors that recall certain aspects of Edward Hopper.

His hallmark is the use of bold colours applied to black and white drawings, a feature that is common to his publications whether for adults or children, for the press or for advertising (e.g. the covers of L’Histoire de la mouette et du chat and Petit Poucet, the cartoon books for adults Le Coup de Prague and La Loterie).

The Author(s)

Miles Hyman is an illustrator and cartoonist for newspapers (The New Yorker, Télérama, Le Monde …) and for publishers (Futuropolis, Glénat, Gallimard …). His book covers include Le Poulpe (The Octopus) and his cult cartoon adaptations of crime novels include the French translation of James Ellory’s The Black Dahlia published by Rivages-Casterman Noir.
